Impermanence

Impermanence, as its name suggests, is what is not permanent.

A flower that blooms today, fades tomorrow, green leaves in the summer and yellow in the fall etc etc

Nature shows us this: we cannot stop the movement, we cannot stop the end, we cannot stop death.

In the Western world in particular, it is difficult to integrate impermanence. We have become too accustomed to the beliefs of continuity, of permanence. We were programmed to: “and they lived happily ever after and had many children,” to “the man or woman of my life”.

Many people cultivate fears by clinging to the past, or creating expectations by projecting themselves into the future.

And they forget the essential: the present.

Yet we live our lives in the present. The strongest experiences of our lives are the ones where we are completely present: a discussion, watching the sunset, listening to a song, making a love declaration, it all happens in the present.

Suffering stems from this friction between the impermanence of the world and our willingness to keep what we have today or worse, to reclaim what was before and at all costs.

But the acceptance of the impermanence of things! it’s WOW.

It naturally leads us to detachment.

In other words, I am not attached to what is there, I fully accept what is there, knowing pertinently that what is there can change at any time…

Not always obvious to us Westerners.

With love from this moment of sharing with you,

Carmen
