The autonomic nervous system and you

What if these problems had their root in the protective mechanism of your ANS:

· your autoimmune diseases

· your pain

· your lack of self-confidence

· your feeling of worthlessness

· your compulsive behaviors

· your anxiety, your depression

· your dark thoughts which go around in a loop

· your dysfunctional relationships?

The SNA is divided into 3 parts:

The dorsal vagal system: is responsible for your survival strategies through immobilization.

The sympathetic system: is responsible for your flight/fight reactions.

The vagal system: offers you the possibility of feeling safe through connection and social bond.

The ventral vagal

When it perceives that you are safe, your ANS keeps you prone, in the ventral vagal state.

Ventral: it is this state of calm, of connection to the world, of presence.

This is the highest state of the polyvagal scale.

The sympathetic system

If your ANS perceives danger, it goes into sympathetic mode: into fight or flight.

The danger may be real or perceived!

This state is synonymous with inner agitation, anger, fear, anxiety, agitation, irritability.

The dorsal

If you cannot fight or flee the threat, the SNA perceives that you no longer have the resources to manage the situation and puts you on the dorsal state.

This is survival by immobilization. In this state, you feel a lack of energy, disconnection, lethargy, collapse.

This is the lowest state on the polyvagal scale.

So, what state do you find yourself in?

Following the various events experienced in your life, your ANS can remain blocked in the sympathetic or dorsal region.

The further down the ladder you go, the more difficult it is to climb back up.

And you, what dominant state are you in?
